Buying a used car or truck online is not rocket science, but there is a procedure that you should adhere to so that you can save yourself (and the seller) both time and money.
Unless you were born wealthy or have recently made a killing in the market, you will need financing to purchase a car or truck. The most prudent and efficient thing that you can do is to get preapproved for a loan. This is not as difficult as it sounds. You simply contact the lending institution of your choice, either online or off, and fill out the applications that the institution requires. The lending institution will usually give you a "yes" or "no" answer within hours and certainly within days.
Once you have your financing established, it is time to crank up your computer and "go shopping."
Here are the steps that you need to follow:
1. Type the words "buy a used car" into the search box of your favorite search engine and hit the search button. When the search engine displays the search results, start with the first three or four sites listed.
2. When you click on a link and navigate to a site that sells used cars online, the next thing you need to do is carefully read and follow the directions given on the website for finding the car or truck that you are interested in purchasing. Each site is a bit different but you will be asked to enter the parameters of your search; make, model, mileage, color, accessories, etc.
3. Click on the links provided in the search to see pictures and detailed information about the car or truck. You can also compare your selections side by side.
4. Before you contact the seller of your chosen car or truck, check with Kelley Blue Book or another car/truck evaluation site to determine the real value of the vehicle.
